Along?Strike Variation of Convergence Rate and Pre?Existing Weakness Contribute to Indian Slab Tearing Beneath Tibetan Plateau

نویسندگان

چکیده

A number of geophysical observations reveal that the underthrusting Indian continental plate beneath southern Tibetan Plateau is laterally torn and segmented, with contrasting subduction angles along strike. However, mechanism such kind slab tearing remains unclear. Here, a series 3-D high-resolution numerical models are conducted, which suggest lateral variation (either gradually or abruptly changing) boundary convergence rate plays critical role in slab. The changing large contrast could lead to all by itself, whereas should be combined pre-existing weakness block. structures properties overriding block play secondary roles. Finally, we propose attributed time-dependent during Indian-Asian collision lithospheric weakness.

Significant seismic anisotropy beneath the southern Lhasa Terrane, Tibetan Plateau

[1] Shear wave splitting measurements using teleseismic PKS, SKKS, and SKS phases recorded by station LSA on the southern part of the Lhasa Terrane of the Tibetan Plateau reveal significant azimuthal anisotropy with a splitting time of up to 1.5 s, a conclusion that is contradictory to previous studies which suggested isotropy or weak anisotropy. In addition, systematic variations of the splitt...

Shear-velocity structure of the crust and upper mantle beneath the Tibetan Plateau and southeastern China

S U M M A R Y This paper addresses the velocity structure of the crust and upper mantle beneath southern China with special emphasis on the Tibet region. Waveform data from 48 earthquakes as recorded on the WWSSN and GDSN are used in this detailed forward modelling study. Constraints on the upper crustal section are derived from modelling local Love waves in the time domain applying the mode-su...

Depth variations of P-wave azimuthal anisotropy beneath Mainland China

A high-resolution model of P-wave anisotropic tomography beneath Mainland China and surrounding regions is determined using a large number of arrival-time data recorded by the China seismic network, the International Seismological Centre (ISC) and temporary seismic arrays deployed on the Tibetan Plateau. Our results provide important new insights into the subducted Indian plate and mantle dynam...

Structure of the crust beneath the southeastern Tibetan Plateau from teleseismic receiver functions

Southeastern Tibet marks the site of presumed clockwise rotation of the crust due to the India–Eurasian collision and abutment against the stable Sichuan basin and South China block. Knowing the structure of the crust is a key to better understanding of crustal deformation and seismicity in this region. Here, we analyze recordings of teleseismic earthquakes from 25 temporary broadband seismic s...
